BASIC Forward: Our Reunion Is Their Beginning

BASIC (Brothers and Sisters in Christ) was more than a gathering. It was a movement that shaped our lives. It was where we encountered God’s presence, where friendships were forged, and where we learned that ordinary young people could be used in extraordinary ways. It was where we found belonging, guidance, and mentors who believed in us before we fully believed in ourselves. Those years were not just memories; they were a foundation. BASIC proved that God moves through community and delights in working through the young.

BASIC Forward is our response to that legacy. What we received in our youth was never meant to stay with us. The faith that was formed in us is now meant to be planted in others. This is not simply an act of generosity. It is remembrance turning into obedience. We are not gathering for nostalgia. We are gathering around purpose. We are choosing to invest in a new generation of young people who are searching for the same belonging, direction, and hope that once changed us.

This is not about preserving the past. It is about multiplying it. What God began in us will not end with us. Our blessings become their beginnings. Our story continues through theirs.

WHY YOUTH IN THAILAND?

The youth we long to support stand in a place that is painfully familiar: searching for identity, longing for belonging, and desperately needing someone to believe in them, just as we once did. But unlike us, their challenges are far more severe.

In Thailand, more than 120,000 children are growing up in institutional care, not because they are unloved, but because poverty has forced families into impossible choices. At eighteen, many of these teens are released from children’s homes with no safety net, no guidance, and no one to call when life becomes overwhelming. Without a community to catch them, they become easy targets for exploitation, abuse, and trafficking.

This is why organizations like Gateway Foundation Thailand are so important. Instead of treating children as cases to be managed, Gateway focuses on strengthening families before separation occurs and walking alongside teens as they transition into adulthood, so they are not left to face life alone. They provide more than just programs; they create a sense of belonging, mentorship, and dignity.

In many cases, children are not abandoned because their parents don’t care, but because a crisis leaves them with no other option. Gateway exists to make sure the crisis does not decide their future.

Gateway Foundation provides what BASIC once gave us:

  • Transition Houses — Where Safety Becomes Stability

These homes serve as sanctuaries for vulnerable youth and young mothers who have nowhere safe to turn. Within these walls, they find not only a roof over their heads but also emotional support, counseling, life-skills coaching, and the space to breathe again. What BASIC was for us spiritually, a refuge where we were nurtured and empowered, these houses have now become in physical form for them.

  • Flying V Program — Equipping Youth to Soar

Much like BASIC gave us opportunities to lead, learn, and grow, this program offers education scholarships, one-on-one mentoring, and vocational training that prepares youth for real independence. Whether they are pursuing university, skilled trades, or entrepreneurship, they are surrounded by people who refuse to let their circumstances define their destiny. It’s discipleship in practical form, guidance that leads to dignity.

  • Social Care — Meeting Daily Needs So Dreams Can Take Root

For many children, the biggest barriers to hope are not abstract; they are as simple as food, medicine, or the ability to stay in school. Through ongoing social care, youth and families receive meals, healthcare support, transportation, and essential supplies. These may seem small, but for a child standing at the edge of survival, they are the difference between merely existing and beginning to dream again.

THE POWER OF RECONNECTION

This campaign is not only about youth in Thailand; it is also about us, the BASIC family. By reconnecting, we remember together what God has done in our lives. We rediscover the faith, friendships, and moments that shaped who we are today. In doing so, we begin to form a new kind of community, one rooted in prayer, encouragement, and shared purpose. It becomes more than nostalgia. It becomes a living network that supports one another while blessing the next generation.

BASIC Forward isn’t only a fundraiser. It’s a spiritual homecoming.

This is a homecoming. Not to a place, but to our roots. A homecoming to one another, to the community that shaped us before we even understood its significance. And ultimately, a homecoming to God’s calling. The calling to take what He once entrusted to us in our youth and pass it forward to those who now stand where we once stood. It is not a return for the sake of memory, but a return for the sake of mission.

Our reunion is not nostalgia. It’s a movement.

Our expenses are not wasted. They are planted in the future.

Our story is not over. It is multiplying.
